  4. Locate the site where you want to create a staging environment, and click Clone.
  5. To keep things separate, we recommend you create a staging environment for your website using a new subdomain. Additionally, you have the option to use the existing domain or subdomain. In our example, we’ll use a new subdomain.
  6. Once you Click Start, WordPress Toolkit will begin creating the staging environment for your website.
  7. When staging is complete, click Close. You now have an exact copy of your site you can use for testing and development.To keep things organized, we recommend you add a Label to both the staging and production environment. To do so, click on the Add Label button for each WordPress instance, and choose either Production or Staging:
    WordPress Toolkit is smart enough to disable Search engine indexing, so you don’t have to worry about duplicate content on search engines.

    How to Push Changes from Staging to Production Environment (Live Website)

    Now that you’ve worked on your website in the staging environment, it has come time to push any changes in production, which means pushing any changes to the live website. To do so, please follow the steps below:

    1. Log in to cPanel.

    2. In the Domains section of the cPanel’s home screen, click WordPress Management:

    3. Next, the WordPress Toolkit page will appear, and you’ll see the list of the existing WordPress installs.

    4. Locate the staging environment you wish to push into production and click Copy Data.


    5. The Copy Data dialog box appears:

    7. Under Data to Copy, select whether you want to copy files, the database, or both
    8. Under Database Tables, select whether you want to copy specific tables, new tables, or all tables
    9. Optionally, select the Create a restore point check box under Restore to create a restore point. A restore point enables you to revert the copied data if the site does not work correctly.
    10. Click Start. WordPress Toolkit copies the data you specified.

    The time taken may vary in accordance with the size of the data that is being pushed, so please be patient.

WordPress Install Management

In the WordPress Toolkit dashboard, we’ll explore multiple management options below.

  • To view your site, click Open.
  • To add a label to your WordPress install (Production, Staging, Development), click Add Label
  • To log in to your WordPress Administrator panel, click Log in.
  • To change various site settings, such as the login password, administrator’s e-mail address, or site language, click Setup.
  • To view and manage your files for your WordPress site, click File Manager.
  • To copy files from one WordPress installation to another, click Copy Data.

    This feature is only available on WordPress Toolkit Pro.

  • To view action logs for the install, click Logs.
  • To place the site in maintenance mode, click the Maintenance mode toggle button. Click the Manage icon beside to customize maintenance mode settings, such as the maintenance email template, the message that appears to site visitors, the Countdown timer, or Social Media links.
  • To enable or disable search engine indexing, click the Search engine indexing toggle.

    You may want to disable search engine indexing if your site is still under development or not ready for public viewing.

  • To enable or disable WordPress debugging, click the Debugging toggle.
  • To enable or disable password protection, click the Password protection toggle.
    When this option is enabled, all site visitors must enter a username and password to access the site.
  • To enable or disable hotlink protection, click the Enable hotlink protection toggle.
    Hotlink protection prevents other websites from displaying, linking, or embedding your images and, consequently, using your bandwidth.

Checking WordPress Install Integrity

This feature comes in handy if you suspect your site is infected with malware. In this scenario, use the Verify Checksums option to check the integrity of the WordPress core files.

If checksums fail to match, you can quickly reinstall WordPress core files without affecting your site content.

Detaching a WordPress Site

This option comes in handy if you want to remove (detach) a WordPress installation from WordPress Toolkit. When you do this, you can no longer use WordPress Toolkit to manage the WordPress install. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From the WordPress Toolkit main page, in a site list entry, click the three dots icon, and then click Detach:
  2. In the Detaching WordPress Websites dialog box, click Detach to confirm. WordPress Toolkit will detach the install.

Deleting a WordPress Site

This option comes in handy if you want to delete a WordPress install. To do this, follow these steps:

Before deleting your WordPress install, we strongly recommend you consider doing a backup of your site first. 

  1. From the WordPress Toolkit main page, in a site list entry, click the three dots icon, and then click Remove:
  2. Select the data you want to remove, and then click Yes. WordPress Toolkit will delete the data you specified.

  4. Under Choose installation options, there are multiple options to customize your site:
    • Installation path text box: you can optionally specify a different folder to install WordPress.

      If you want your domain name (for example, https://mywebsite.com) to go directly to WordPress, please leave the Installation path text box empty.

    • In the Website title text box, specify the title of your site.
    • In the Plugin/theme set list box, you can optionally select a package of plugins and themes to install.
    • In the Website language list box, select the language for the site.
    • In the Version list box, select the WordPress version you want to install.
      Unless you have a specific reason for not doing so, you should install the latest version.
    • Under WordPress Administrator, type the username you want to use to manage your site in the Username text box.
    • In the Password text box, type the password you want to use for your WordPress admin panel.

      We strongly recommend that you use a strong password! Alternatively, you can generate a random password.

    • In the Email text box, type a valid e-mail address. This address is used to receive update notifications and can be used to reset your password if needed.
    • Under Database, you can optionally change the database settings.
      (There’s no need to change any of them unless you have a specific reason).
    • Under Automatic Update Settings, you can optionally change the settings for WordPress, plugin, and theme updates.
      (There’s no need to change any of them unless you have a specific reason).
  5. Click Install. WordPress Toolkit begins the installation, and you’ll see the installation progress:
