Things to Consider Before Transferring Your Domain Away from Google Domains

  1. Before going further with the domain transfer, it is essential to know that when a domain name is transferred away, the name servers associated with your domain stay the same during the transfer from one registrar to the other. So for example, if your domain name is using the default name servers of Google Domains, those name servers will be preserved during the transfer and you won’t be able to change the name servers until the transfer is complete.
This means that if you switched to another web hosting provider, and your website was migrated already, before initiating a domain transfer make sure that your domain name is pointed to the name servers of the new provider. As we previously mentioned – you won’t be able to change the name servers until the transfer is complete.
  2. Domain Name Registrations and Web Hosting are separate services. The domain name transfer process will not automatically migrate your website. If you are a ChemiCloud customer and wish to transfer your website from your web host, please submit a migration request from your client area. Our migrations experts will move your existing sites and emails free of charge, seamlessly, and with no downtime.
  3. The transfer of your domain name will include the renewal of your domain with another year. So for instance, if your domain is due to expire on the 1st of January 2025, once the transfer is complete, the new expiration date will be the 1st of January 2026.
  4. Ensure the domain has not been registered or transferred in the last 60 days.
  5. Ensure that the domain is in the  ‘Active Period’ and not in the ‘Redemption Grace Period’ or ‘Pending Delete’ period.

How To Transfer A Domain From Google Domains

Step 1: Click here to open the Google Domains page. In the top right corner of the webpage, click the Sign In button.

You will be prompted to log in to your Google Account:

Step 2: After signing into your Google Account, your Google Domains page will load, and you will see a list of all domains registered in your Google Domains account.

Find the domain you wish to transfer and click the Manage button to the right of the domain.

Step 3: The Domain Management page will load. Look towards the left side of the page and click Registration Options.

Step 4: The Registration Settings page will load. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the “Domain is locked’ setting.

Toggle the switch to the off position. This will unlock the domain so it can be transferred.

Step 5: The Transfer Out option is at the bottom of the Registration Settings page.

Click the Get Auth Code button.

Your auth code will be displayed. You can use this code at the new registrar to transfer the domain away from Google Domains.

Note

Auth/EPP codes are required for all .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, .info, .me, .co, .io, .ca, .tv, .in, .mobi, .cc, .pe, .com.pe, .net.pe, .org.pe, .tech, .top, .party, .loan, .faith and other new gTLD domains. If you cannot request an EPP code in account with your Registrar, contact them and ask to provide it to you.

And that’s how you unlock your domain at Google Domains and request your EPP code to transfer the domain.

How to Request a Domain Transfer to ChemiCloud

Once you have your EPP code and have confirmed the domain is unlocked, and privacy is disabled, follow the steps to initiate the domain transfer.

We’ll assume that you have already unlocked the domain at its current registrar and that you also have the authorization code (sometimes called an EPP key) from Hostinger.

1) Head over to our Domain Transfer page and enter the domain name you wish to transfer to ChemiCloud and the domain Transfer Code (EPP) in the appropriate text field (your current domain registrar should provide this code).

2) Click the “Order Now“ button.

3) You will be asked if you require hosting as well. Click the “Continue“ button to finalize only the domain transfer without hosting.

Click the ‘Checkout‘ button to send your domain transfer request.

A domain name transfer can take up to six (6) days. Once the domain name transfer is complete, you will receive a confirmation by email.

8 Common Reasons for a Domain Transfer to Fail https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/reasons-for-a-domain-transfer-to-fail/ https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/reasons-for-a-domain-transfer-to-fail/#respond Wed, 12 May 2021 11:31:03 +0000 https://chemicloud.com/kb/?post_type=ht_kb&p=5413 Occasionally when transferring domains, even though you thought you had everything sorted, you initiate that domain transfer and it fails.

We created this Knowledgebase Article to highlight some of the reasons a domain transfer has failed.

Reasons for a Domain Transfer to Fail

Awaiting Owner Response or Approval

When you attempt to transfer a domain away from a registrar, an email will be sent to the listed registrant/owner email address in the WHOIS for that domain. If you are seeing the status “Awaiting Owner Response or Approval” it means the owner of the domain hasn’t authorized the transfer but also hasn’t denied it. They need to take action on the email they received regarding the transfer.

Check Admin Email Address (May Be Incorrect)

As mentioned above, in order to transfer a domain, the current owner contact must approve the transfer. If you are seeing the status “Check Admin Email Address (May Be Incorrect)” when attempting a domain transfer, it means the email address for the Administrative contact is probably invalid or an old email that is now undeliverable. You’ll want to update this in that domain’s WHOIS records.

Domain is Locked

Your domain transfer request will fail if the domain is currently locked. In order to proceed with the transfer, you must unlock the domain at it’s present registrar.

60 Day Post-Renewal Waiting Period

A domain must be at least 60 days past it’s registration date or the date when it was last transferred. You’ll need to wait until 60 days have passed, then you can resubmit your request.

60 Day Ownership Update Waiting Period

If the owner of the domain has changed their first or last name in their WHOIS, the domain may be locked for transfer for another 60 days. This is to prevent fraud.

Expired Domain

A domain transfer will fail if your domain is expired. You must first renew the domain, then wait 60 days, before you can re-request the domain transfer.

Domain Set to Private

Your domain transfer request will fail if the domain privacy or WHOIS Privacy on your domain is enabled. In order to complete the transfer, you must disable the domain privacy feature at the current registrar.

Authorization Code Not Provided

If you didn’t provide the authorization or EPP code when attempting the domain transfer, the transfer will fail. You must request the EPP/Authorization Key from the current registrar to transfer it to another registrar.

How to Request a Domain Transfer to ChemiCloud

Once you have your EPP code and have confirmed the domain is unlocked and privacy is disabled, follow the steps to initiate the domain transfer.

We’ll assume that you have already unlocked the domain at its current registrar and that you also have the authorization code (sometimes called an EPP key) from your domain registrar.

A domain name transfer can take up to six (6) days to complete. Once the domain name transfer is complete, you will receive a confirmation by email.

That’s it!

Domain Name Status Codes Explained https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/domain-name-status-codes-explained/ https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/domain-name-status-codes-explained/#respond Sun, 19 Feb 2017 13:56:55 +0000 https://chemicloud.com/kb/?post_type=article&p=402 When you do a whois lookup, you’ll notice the domain name’s status code. Domain status codes are useful to figure out why your domain isn’t working, whether your domain is locked, and when your domain will be dropped from the registry. You can use an online whois check tool such as whois.com to check the whois details for a domain name.

List of domain name status codes

  • REDEMPTIONPERIOD  –  Domain name has expired and is under Redemption Period of 30 days. Domain name can not be used, modified or deleted. Domain can only be restored by paying redemption fees.
  • PENDINGRESTORE  –  A domain that had expired is now being restored to ACTIVE status.
  • PENDINGDELETE  –  The domain expired the registry is about to erase it. A domain remains in this status for five days before it is deleted.
  • CLIENT_DELETE_PROHIBITED  –  Domain name is locked by the sponsporing registrar so that it can not be deleted.

Can I Transfer My Domain if It’s Expired? https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/can-transfer-domain-expired/ https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/can-transfer-domain-expired/#respond Sun, 19 Feb 2017 13:55:19 +0000 https://chemicloud.com/kb/?post_type=article&p=400 According to ICANN’s rules and regulations, expiration or non-renewal of a domain name is not a valid reason for denial of a transfer request. Transferring a  domain to another host once it has expired is only possible while the domain is in the expiry grace period.

You must complete the transfer during its grace period before the domain name falls into “redemption,” which is when the domain name begins its transfer back to the registry for someone else to register it.

The length of the grace period differs by domain name extension.
