DNS (Domain Name System) is a way of making the Internet an easier place for the common man. It’s a way of simplifying the way we use the web in our day to day life. The full explanation would be very complex and we will try to clarify its meaning in a short and concise manner.

Each computer in an IP-network has its own IP-numbers. When searching the web you write addresses with letters instead of numbers and this through the help of DNS. For example, instead of typing an IP-number like 140.90.99.144 on your browser you type in chemicloud.com. This makes it easier using the web and visits various sites. You could say that DNS “translates” whatever you’ve written into an IP-address and the other way around.

If you’re making the switch to ChemiCloud from another hosting company, you can either transfer your domain name to us or just update the nameserver (DNS) entries to link it to your Chemicloud hosting account.

In order to use a domain registered somewhere else with your ChemiCloud hosting account, please follow these steps:

1) Change the DNS servers for the domain in question at your registrar to the ones for your account. For the specific DNS settings information please reference the Welcome Email you received from ChemiCloud shortly after completing your purchase. Within it will be the exact DNS nameservers that you will need.

2) Allow 24 hours for the DNS changes to propagate and take effect.
